Marty grew up in a hockey family, although only his older brother played, the whole family where hockey/Blackhawks fans. Being a native of Chicago it was was to love the game. Marty started playing hockey at 11 years old. Although, 11 years old was pretty late to start in most sports he quickly excelled. IN 3 years he was playing hockey at the triple AAA for team IL. At that time Marty loved the game so much that he became a rink rat an started teaching kids for Rocky Saganiuk the former Toronto Maple Leaf who taught Marty a lot of knowledge of hockey. Rocky also got Marty a tryout at 16 Years old in the Golden Horse Shoe League in Fort Erie Ontario.
Marty was then scouted by the USHL where he signed with the Omaha Lancers where he won the National Championship and Clark Cup his rookie year and was named to the All Star team for the 2nd straight year. He also won the Anderson Cup, But the biggest stand out that year was signing to Michigan Tech and being drafted 4th round 121st overall to the Buffalo Sabres. Marty then went on to play 8 seasons of pro hockey in the UHL, CHL, IHL, & ECHL. Playing 1 year for the Tulsa Oilers 2009-2010.
One of Marty’s biggest accomplishments was when his minor hockey organization put an award in his name, “The Marty Magers Award” for most Tenacious Player. After retiring Marty moved to Tulsa with his girlfriend Kolleen and opened a photo business. Marty looks forward to mixing his knowledge and ability with the youth of Tulsa.
