TULSA, OK – The WSHL (Western States Hockey League) released its official schedule on Friday for the upcoming 2012-13 season. The Tulsa Junior Oilers will play 46 regular season games from late September through early March which includes a four-game showcase in Las Vegas in mid-December. Teams will compete in three-game series and all games will fall on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday.
Tulsa opens its inaugural season on the road against the Dallas Ice Jets on September 22nd. The Junior Oilers home opener is slated for October 12th at 5:30 p.m. against the Texas Junior Brahmas. The Junior Oilers will play at the Oilers Ice Center (64th and Mingo) and will also play selected home games at the BOK Center in downtown Tulsa.
The WSHL is divided into four divisions and spans 12 states, but the Junior Oilers (Midwest Division) will play a majority of their games in Oklahoma, Texas, and Kansas. Tulsa’s closest regional rival is the Wichita Junior Thunder, a squad the Junior Oilers will face a season-high 12 times.
The Junior Oilers will have only two lengthy road trips, a visit to the Arizona Redhawks (Nov. 30-Dec. 2) and a trek to the El Paso Rhinos (Dec. 14-16) which will be immediately followed by the journey to Las Vegas.
Tulsa fans have a chance to see teams from outside the Midwest Division when the Long Beach Bombers arrive at the Oilers Ice Center (Jan. 25-27) and the Cheyenne Stampede pay a visit in the second-to-last series of the season (Mar. 1-3).
